The Unit of Psychology for Brain Aging provides the following clinical activities:
a) neuropsychological diagnosis, aimed at differentiating physiological aging from pathological deterioration, as well as distinguishing between the different forms of dementia in order to identify conditions of mild cognitive impairment; the assessment of general cognitive functioning and single cognitive functions is made through a specific neuropsychological tests protocol;
b) individual and group rehabilitation/cognitive neuropsychological activation, addressed to patients with acquired cognitive disorders, with the aim of limiting the functional/cognitive damage, reactivating the not completely impaired functions and providing aids to compensate the impaired ones.
Psychologists represent the core professional staff within the multidisciplinary team working with in-patient elderly with intellectual disabilities.
Out-patient service for diagnostic assessment and psychotherapy is also provided.
